| Cold Weather Skincare | Blogmas 2016

That dreaded cold weather is finally here. Well, for me at least, it's currently 21 degrees as I'm writing this! With colder weather comes changes to our skin and in this post I'm going to share with you my cold weather skincare routine for both my body and my face.

When the weather gets cold my skin gets really dry. I make sure to moisturize throughout the day to prevent my skin from getting cracked.
Here are a few of my dry skin tips:

- If you shower in the morning, put some lotion on right after you get out of the shower. If you don't shower in the morning, make sure you're still putting lotion on before leaving the house!

- Carry around a travel sized hand lotion with you, that way whenever your hands are feeling dry, you can just put some on.

- Make sure you're exfoliating your skin too so you get all of that dry, dead skin off of your body.

- If your skin is extremely dry, chapped, cracked, or you have any open sores opt for a fragrance-free lotion, that way it won't burn when you put it on and it won't irritate your skin. (Just because something says "unscented", doesn't mean it's fragrance-free. Always check the ingredients to be sure!)

- Make sure you're also applying lotion at night, to keep your skin hydrated!

For the most part, my face is pretty much oily. It does get a little drier in certain areas in the winter, but nothing too bad. However, I make sure to take extra care of my skin during the colder months to prevent excessive dryness.
Here are a few tips:

- Make sure you're applying a moisturizer every night, (and morning, if possible). This is important for everyone, even if you have oily skin.

- You should also be exfoliating your skin too.

- If you have any excessive dryness or cracked skin on your face, skip out on wearing makeup until it clears. You don't want to irritate it even more.

- Make sure you're moisturizing your lips too! I'm a Chapstick freak, I'm always applying it! Carry a lip balm with you in your bag, that way you can prevent your lips from getting too dry.

- If you're suffering from a cold and you're blowing your nose a lot, you might get really dry skin around your nose. My favorite way to sooth this is by applying some Vaseline on the dry areas.

Those were a few of my tips for cold weather skincare! How do you take care of your skin when it gets cold out? Let me know in the comments!
