| How To Use Instagram To Promote Your Blog |

I have a love/hate relationship with Instagram and I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels this way. Instagram is one of the essential platforms to use to promote your blog, (if you're not already on Instagram, get yourself an account now!). However, with recent changes to the algorithm, Instagram is becoming increasingly more difficult to grow an account on. That doesn't mean it's not possible to grow your account, you just need to be careful and strategic.
In order to get the most out of your Instagram account to insure you're getting your content not only out there on the internet, but also seen by many people, you need to make sure you're using it right. I've got a few tips for you to help grow your Instagram account that I'm sharing in this post! Hopefully I can help you grow your account so your content can get the attention it deserves!

How To Use Instagram To Promote Your Blog

Follow other bloggers

Following other bloggers is probably one of the most important things to do when it comes to using Instagram to promote your blog. More often than not, other bloggers will follow you too, it's a very supportive community. Not only is following other bloggers good for gaining more followers, it also gives you the opportunity to find inspiration.
It's also a good idea to follow accounts that are related to what you blog about. I blog mostly about beauty, fashion, and lifestyle so I follow makeup artists, beauty and fashion brands, and other related accounts.
Also, please don't follow to unfollow. It's annoying and pointless, if you're not planning on following an account because you genuinely like their content, just don't follow them at all.

Use hashtags

Unless you have a very large and very engaging following, chances are you're not going to get much exposure from just posting a photo. Using hashtags is the best way to get more engagement on your photos and your account in general. Instagram has a limit of 30 hashtags per post, so aim for 30. The more you use, the more exposure you'll get.
Make sure you're using hashtags that are related to what you do though. A few of my go-to's are #bbloggers, #bloggers, #makeup, #discoverunder10k, etc..

Search through hashtags

One of the easiest ways to get more likes on your photos on Instagram is by liking other pictures. Just search hashtags related to what you post or search other popular hashtags like #like4like or #vsco and like some photos. Try to only like photos you actually like and be careful, Instagram may view too much liking as spam.
This is also a great way to find new accounts to follow! If you see something you like, leave a comment or follow their account!

Post more frequently

You can't really expect to grow your Instagram account if you never post. My personal rule of thumb, and a few others, is to post once a day. One post a day works great because it shows that your account is active, that you'll always have fresh content for your followers to view. It also shows consistency which, you probably know from running a blog, is super important.

But remember that quality matters

Posting frequently and consistently is important, but don't feel the need to post a photo just because you do every day at 11 AM. If you don't have any photos that are up to standard with the rest of the photos featured on your account or you're about to post a not so great one, you're better off waiting until you have better quality photos. Your followers will appreciate the higher quality photo that they maybe had to wait a day for over the mediocre one that you're not even 100% happy about that you posted just to post, ya feel?

Ask questions in your posts

If one of your goals is to work with brands, you have to understand how important engaging with your followers is. It's not enough to just receive hundreds of likes on a photo, you need people to leave comments as well. A great way to get more comments on a photo is to ask questions. Even a simple "What are your plans for the weekend?" works if you can't think of anything else to ask.
Make sure to respond to the comments too!

Theme/no theme

One of the biggest decisions to make with your Instagram account is whether to have a theme or not. Some people are all about the theme, where every photo looks very similar and your account looks super pretty, neat, and put together.
A theme, personally, isn't for me, the pressure to get all of my photos to look the same is too much, however I do switch between posting flatlay style photos and selfies where I feature some makeup looks. Decide what works better for you, if you think you can handle a theme, go for it and if you choose not to have a theme, that's fine too!

Promote your account everywhere

Make sure your Instagram account name is in your Twitter bio, featured on your Facebook and Pinterest pages, and of course have it on your blog! Drop your handle at the end of your blog posts too. If you use Snapchat, promote your Instagram account there too, like as soon as you post a new photo, so your followers never miss your posts.
If you see someone tweet that they're looking for new accounts to follow on Instagram, don't be afraid to leave your link, even if they don't actually follow you, (which does sometimes happen), someone else might see your link and give you a follow.
Think of it like advertising. The more you promote your account, the more engagement it will ultimately get.

Those are a few of my tips for using Instagram to promote your blog! I'm by no means a social media marketing expert, but I have been using my Instagram to promote my blog for almost a year and my stats are increasing tremendously, so I figured I'd share some of my tips with you to help you get the most out of your Instagram account!
