Makeup is great these days! There's something for everyone, whether you go drugstore or high end. It's just so cool to see so many brands coming out with awesome products all the time. But sometimes you buy a new makeup product, whether it was hyped up or you impulsively bought it, and you're left feeling nothing but disappointment and regret for spending your hard earned money on it.

When this happens to me, I just have this urge to tell everyone I know that I didn't like it, so they don't waste their money on it either. That's exactly what I'm doing in this post, sharing with you guys some of the drugstore makeup products I bought and now regret.

Products I Regret Buying: Drugstore Makeup

Covergirl x Katy Perry Katy Kat Matte in Cosmo Kitty

I've been trying to get a little more creative and adventurous with my makeup and when I initially purchased this lipstick, it looked to be a perfect fit for some more bold looks. The color is this bright, bold, and beautiful purple and I bought it hoping I could create some cool makeup looks with it.

Unfortunately, it's a downright horrible product. The color is beautiful in the package and it swatches pretty nicely, but when you try to apply it to your lips, it appears sheer. It doesn't work either when you try to layer it. Instead of building up color, it just moves it around so it looks uneven and patchy.

I have yet to try out any of the other lipsticks from this line, and I know that bolder colors are usually harder to make work, so maybe some of the other shades would work better.

Wet n Wild Mattifying Powder

I'm guessing this is supposed to be a translucent matte powder, but it's pretty far from it. The product is really dry and once you get past the first layer, it starts to look shimmery.

I gave this product a try a few times and I've never been happy with the way it leaves my skin looking. It doesn't leave a matte finish and you have to keep reapplying it.

Wet n Wild Mega Slicks Balm Stain in Nudist Colony

This is a balm stain, so I know it's not meant to provide a lot of color and the color is really pretty, like the perfect nude. However, once applied, it just makes your lips look like there's some kind of whitish film all over them which is totally gross.

Also, I know it says "slick" in the name, but it might just be too slick-y. The product moves around way too much, making this product nothing more than a huge fail.

Wet n Wild Highlighting Stick

I bought this when Wet n Wild released their new face collection featuring foundation, concealer, and a cream contour and highlighting stick. I've never been a huge fan of cream products, preferring powder over them due to my oily skin, but I absolutely love the cream contour stick!

This highlighting stick though, I can't think of any better way of putting it except that I hate it. The color is gorgeous, but there's a ton of problems I have with it. It doesn't blend out that well, sometimes even disappearing completely when I try blending it out. It also moves around way too much, and leaves my skin looking horrible. This one's just not for me.

e.l.f. Under Eye Concealer and Highlighter

This product is a total mess. The concealer doesn't do anything for me besides make my skin appear grey. It might just be too sheer, but it doesn't do a great job at hiding dark circles either.

The highlighting side, I really have no idea what it's deal is. Is it meant to be an under eye highlight? Is it to be used all over your face? Either way it's white and sparkly and it doesn't blend or highlight anything, so it's just a big no for me.

e.l.f. Aqua Beauty Aqua Infused Blush & Bronzer Duo

First, let me start by saying that I find it hilarious that they called it "Aqua Infused" instead of just saying water. Second, I hate this product. Maybe it's because I can't stand products that have a creamier texture, but whatever, I hate it.

The colors are pretty and I love the powder Blush & Bronzer Duos they sell, but this one didn't work for me. The colors were way too pigmented, I had trouble blending them out, and they made my skin look too oily, not dewy like intended.

Maybellibe Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick in Pink Charge

Let me start by saying that I have a few of the shades from this range and I love all of them, except this one. The color is so pretty, it's this perfect, bubblegum pink, and I had so many cute looks in mind when I picked this up.

The issue with this lipstick is the color doesn't apply right on the lips. It's too patchy and when you try to build it up, it just moves around. The formula seems a little thick and it just doesn't work. Total shame too, I adore this color. This one has left me heartbroken.

Those are a few of my drugstore products I regret buying. There's something so therapeutic about writing a negative post every once in a while. Honestly, I can't love every product I try out. I also like being able to tell you guys what didn't work for me, so you have a better idea of what to skip on. Remember though, just because something didn't work for me, doesn't mean it won't for you!
Also, sorry for coming off a little harsh, I just have to get it out sometimes!

What are some of your recent product regrets? I'd love to hear, drop me a comment!

  1. That Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick was a bummer. I have attempted to buy it a few times but glad that I didn't. Haha!

  2. The only product I tried here was the Katy Perry Lipstick in another shade, and I had the same exact problem. Super sheer. Thanks for stopping me from buying all the other products though xxx

Thanks so much! I'll be sure to skip over the Makeup Revolution contour stick, I've been looking into that brand lately because I haven't tried it yet & I'm still trying to figure out what's worth it or not.
