| How To Use Snapchat to Promote Your Blog |

When it comes to using social media to promote your blog, everyone is quick to say you need to use Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and even Pinterest as the best ways to promote. Everyone seems to forget though that Snapchat is a great way to promote your content, increase your readership, and develop a loyal following.
Snapchat is one of my favorite social media platforms to use to promote my blog because I love how fast and direct it is and I love how it allows for a more personal relationship between the blogger and their readers.

Snapchat can be a little overwhelming and confusing when first trying to figure out how to use it to promote your blog. In this post, I'm going to share with you my tips for using Snapchat to promote your blog so that your content gets the attention it deserves!

Promote your account everywhere

In order to use Snapchat to promote your blog, you first have to have people added on Snapchat. You can easily add the people in your contacts, but finding people to add on Snapchat isn't the same as Twitter or Instagram. You have to either find the usernames or Snapcodes of people to add or ask people to add you. To do this just simply share your Snapcode and username everywhere! This includes on your blog's website and all of your other social media accounts.

You also might want to turn your account onto the public setting, meaning anyone can view your story. This allows anyone to add you and view your story without you first accepting them, which will help to gain a larger following on the app. If you're worried about random people being able to contact you or send you stuff, just turn the contact me setting onto friends only. This means only people who you've accepted and added as a friend can contact you, but anyone can still view your story.

Add other bloggers/influencers

I have tons of other bloggers/Youtubers/influencers added on Snapchat. Not only do I enjoy viewing their stories and getting a glimpse of their day-to-day lives, I also love using it as inspiration of what I should be posting too!

Snapchat can be a little tough to get a hang of when first using it for promoting your blog. If you add all of your favorites and check out what they're posting you might find a little inspiration during those times where you can't figure out what to post!

Promise exclusive content

You want to give people a reason to add you on Snapchat and the best way to do that is by promising exclusive content. Your "exclusive content" can be whatever you want it to be. You can do giveaways, you can give your followers a little peak at some "behind the scenes" stuff, or you can do some unboxings!

I also love using Snapchat as a way for my followers and blog readers to have a chance to get to know me a little better. Since it seems to be a more personal app, it's the perfect place to do it! I'll usually share little bits and pieces of my day, so people can learn a little more about me.

Promote your content

If you're using Snapchat to promote your blog, make sure you're promoting your blog on Snapchat! I like to take a screenshot of my latest blog post as soon as it goes up, and share it on my Snapchat story so my followers can see and go check it out.

I also often show some "in progress" work on my Snapchat story and I love asking for feedback, it allows for a more personal relationship between you and the readers of your blog, and everyone who blogs knows how important developing a good, personal relationship with your readers is.

Promote your other social media accounts

Half of running a blog is running multiple social media accounts and the best way to promote your social media accounts is by using other social media accounts! (Yes, totally confusing way of explaining it, but you get it).
Just like how you ask your Twitter followers to follow you on Instagram and vice versa, you want to use Snapchat to promote your other social media accounts too.

Every once in a while I'll share a screenshot of my Twitter or Instagram profile and ask my Snapchat friends to give me a follow or to check out my latest picture. I usually see my follower count go up from this, and it ensures that the people following me are people who are actually interested in my content and what I do, not just people who will unfollow after a day. This also helps people who are interested in what you do find you on other forms of social media, in case they haven't already.

Just don't be spammy about it

You don't want to only promote new posts on your Snapchat story, because that takes away from the "personal" part of the app.

You should also avoid sending private snaps of your new posts to the people you have added because that could come off as pushy and annoying. Think of private snaps of your new posts as the equivalent of automatic DMs on Twitter; nobody wants them!

Post at least once a day

Just like every other social media site, the more you post and the more active you are; the better your following will be. Snapchat is easy because it's not meant to be "picture perfect" like Instagram and it takes about 3 seconds to get a post up. Even on busy days, try to post something to your story at least once a day.

Of course, that doesn't mean post something just for the sake of posting something, (like your bathroom trash can just because you haven't posted anything in 2 days). Make sure what you are posting is something that you actually enjoy, something you think your followers will enjoy, or something that could be engaging.

Try to reply to other people

I have my Snapchat settings on public, which means anyone can add me, view my story, and contact me. I prefer it this way because I love having the opportunity to ask people for feedback and I love that you can meet new people through it.
That's not to say this set up doesn't come with it's drawbacks. I'm a huge victim of unsolicited dick pics and overall creepy dudes, but that's why my block list is 4 miles long. :)

Anyway, when people engage with me on Snapchat via my story I try to respond to everyone, excluding the people who are creepy obviously. I feel like it allows me to develop relationships with the people who read my blog and it gives me the perfect opportunity to get feedback on the things I do.

Those are some of my tips for using Snapchat to promote your blog! Snapchat is such an underrated app when it comes to blogging, but when used the right way it can really help to gain readers and an engaging following!

Do you use Snapchat for your blog? If so, what are some of your tips for helping promote your blog with Snapchat? I'd love to hear!
