Blogging Babes Featured Blogger | An Interview with Chloe from Chloe Chats

March's first Blogging Babes Featured Blogger is Chloe from chloechats.com. Chloe is a blogger from the UK who writes about the tough stuff, mental health. Her posts are real, raw, and personal but also empowering and inspirational. Chloe herself is one of the kindest girls in the blogging community, using her experiences and stories to help those around her.

1. What made you decide to start blogging?

I started blogging a good few years ago, at first it was because I was going off to Cambodia for a month and I wanted to blog about it, so I did. Then, when I returned home, I wanted to carry on. I started to blog about pretty much anything that I thought of, or if I had days out or holidays I'd write about them.

Last year was when I started to talk about my mental health, in April 2018 I decided to share "my story" and from there I wanted to write about mental health for both me and for others. Writing is really therapeutic for me, and if I have a lot on my mind I like to get it all out by writing. I often will write out my thoughts in blog posts but keep them unpublished, or sometimes I like to publish them as it can help to not feel so alone and also, it can help others too who might be going through the same thing.

2. What do you blog about?

As I briefly mentioned above, I blog about mental health and well-being mainly. I also do a few lifestyle posts here and there, depends if there's a special occasion like Halloween or Christmas as I do love writing out some festive content - maybe too soon to talk about Christmas!

Most of my blog posts will be about well-being, I love doing posts where I get to research and look into things because it's something I really enjoy, I get to learn more and others who read it can also learn something, which is pretty cool.

3. What is it like blogging about mental health? Especially writing about your own?

At first it was pretty terrifying. I remember writing the first post about what I had been through and I got my boyfriend to check over it, make sure it read okay. The day I published it, I also decided to share it out to my personal Facebook so everyone I have ever known would know that I had mental health issues, and that thought was absolutely terrifying! But the reason I decided to share it out to my personal Facebook was because I wrote it and published it on my blog for a reason, to share my story in the hopes that it could inspire others to speak out too and also to let anyone else know who may be struggling that they're not alone.

I also wrote it for myself too. Writing about things that I go through, especially mental health wise, really helps me to feel more relaxed and not as anxious. I think it's because usually you keep it to yourself and so it just builds up in your mind, but the thought of telling people you know about it can be quite scary. However, when I write about it and share it on my blog, it somehow feels different. I think it's because those who do read the posts, I can't actually see them, I see the comment of course, but it's not the same as someone standing in front of you.

4. Do you find the vulnerability involved with blogging about mental health to be scary? Or is it more empowering? Both?

I guess a bit of both! It's definitely quite a vulnerable thing blogging about mental health because you're talking about things that you often don't like to talk about, but anyone can see it if they know what your blog url is. But, that said, I don't think about it too much because it doesn't feel like anyone is seeing it. Of course, I know from stats and comments on posts that people do read it but I find it's easy to forget that they are reading something that can make you feel so vulnerable.

It is also quite empowering blogging about mental health because when I look back at the posts I've written and the ones that are more personal and about my own mental health, I actually feel proud of myself. a few years ago, I wouldn't talk to anyone about my mental health. I grew up from a little kid to into my 20's not talking about what I was going through, I just dealt with it by myself and it was so hard. From the age of 17 to 22 I suffered with a lot of panic attacks, but I did nothing about it, I didn't speak to anyone, I just kept going through it over and over. The start of 2018 was also a very bad year for me, and my mental health was in a very bad way. This was a big reason to why I wanted to start blogging about mental health because I didn't/don't want anyone to go through it alone.

5. What are some of your own best self care tips?

I love talking about self-care tips! For me personally, I like to always make sure I have a good few hours one evening to focus on me and only me. I like to run a bath, set up my laptop so I can watch Netflix and lie in the bath for a good hour chilling. I then like to get into bed after I'm all warm and cozy in my pj's and I put a face or eye mask on and close my eyes and rest for a half hour. Then I pretty much go to sleep and have an early night - that's my ultimate Sunday self care day!

My tips would be to give yourself some time for you, do something you enjoy doing, eat your favorite food, or visit somewhere you love. Do something that makes you smile, even if it's small, allow yourself to be happy.

6. What is your favorite food?

This is so hard for me because I love so much food. i'm going to go with cheesy mash just because it's so delicious- maybe unhealthy but I don't care! I don't have it very often, so it's pretty good when I do. If I was choosing a meal though, I'd probably say some sort of pasta dish, you can't go wrong  with pasta!

7. Who is your favorite band/artist?

This often doesn't stay the same for me. I'll probably have one month where I'm obsessing over a band/artist and then the next month it'll be a different one!! I think I'm going to go with Ben Howard though - definitely his first album more as it's just so relaxing and I've seen him live a few times and it's just dreamy.

8. What is one thing you couldn't live without?

This is so difficult. I would probably go with my loved ones- that could be cheating though as you said just one. Although, it could be a bit mean calling them a "thing" haha. I've sat thinking about this question for a while. I honestly can't think of just one object that I couldn't live without. I was thinking my laptop...but I could without  that, my phone..it would be pretty had to not have one I guess, but I think if I had to I could live without it. I guess if I didn't have a phone or laptop I would struggle with blogging and I love blogging so maybe one of them, but on the contrary I could always go to library's or internet cafes to do it. Definitely a difficult question!

9. If you could be anything in the world, what would you be and why?

Oh wow, what a question! I think if I could be anything in the world , I would love to be a conservationist for big cats. I have watched documentaries on TV about big cats in the wild and those that look after them and keep them living and honestly it would be so rewarding and so amazing to help them. I love cats, any type of cat I love, they're just the cutest creatures (even the big scary ones!) I'm sure if I put my mind to it and tried to start my career path in it I could possibly make my dream come true, who knows, maybe I will.

10. What's one piece of blogging advice you'd give to someone just starting out?

I would say, blog about things you enjoy. Don't write blog posts just because you see other bloggers doing it and they see "popular" because you won't be blogging for long if you do that, the spark will go out and it'll feel more like a job that you have to do, rather than something that you love doing.

I know you said one, but also interact with other bloggers! That's a big one for me, I honestly love interacting with other bloggers especially on Twitter. For one, it's super cool and lovely to talk to other bloggers but also it you are supporting them, they will support you back!
